In 2012 WWF together with Threadless started a T-shirt design competition where the aim was to celebrate the natural world and inspire people to take positive action to help protect it.

This challenge was something that really inspired me and I wanted to contribute with my design. This resulted in "heated". The message behind this design is that earth, with all its inhabitants, is as important to nurse as our own heart.

This project is a case study on the Swedish company KORBO from a design management point of view.

KORBO produces hand made baskets with inspiration from the old and traditional Swedish fish basket. It is a small company with the aim to grow. By usign a variety of analyzing methods a new strategy of recommendations and conceptual ideas was created. The project was executed in group with the members: Marcus Westerberg, Joana Holmström and Patrick Gustafsson.

An idiom is an expression, word, or phrase that has a figurative meaning that is comprehended in regard to a common use of that expression that is separate from the literal meaning or definition of the words of which it is made.

These expressions are usually very figurative and they immediately paint a picture in your head. Here I want to show how some of the swedish idioms looks in my head.
<img src="http://payload38.cargocollective.com/1/3/121576/3068991/tarm_1.jpg" width="560" height="844" width_o="560" height_o="844" src_o="http://payload38.cargocollective.com/1/3/121576/3068991/tarm_1_o.jpg" data-mid="15657922" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload38.cargocollective.com/1/3/121576/3068991/poster.jpg" width="560" height="844" width_o="560" height_o="844" src_o="http://payload38.cargocollective.com/1/3/121576/3068991/poster_o.jpg" data-mid="15658118" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload38.cargocollective.com/1/3/121576/3068991/huvud.jpg" width="558" height="844" width_o="558" height_o="844" src_o="http://payload38.cargocollective.com/1/3/121576/3068991/huvud_o.jpg" data-mid="15662731" border="0" align="left"/>

<img src="http://payload32.cargocollective.com/1/3/121576/2954602/MA4.jpg" width="670" height="1004" width_o="2000" height_o="3000" src_o="http://payload32.cargocollective.com/1/3/121576/2954602/MA4_o.jpg" data-mid="18364447" border="0" align="left"/>

This is my master thesis. “Livet på en pinne” is a Swedish expression for having a carefree life, just like a bird. This is unfortunatly not the case in Sweden anymore. Birds are decreasing in numbers day by day as a result of our actions and most severe is the situation in the intensified agricultural landscape. This was the starting point for the project.

The result is a module designed to mimic a natural biotope that could be placed within the intensified agricultural landscape. By placing rest materials already existing on a farm such as stones, wood and leaves into the module habitats for useful insects could be created. Butterflies, lacewings, lady birds, solitary bees, beetles and spiders are some examples. These insects will not only become an important food source for the agricultural birds but will also help the farmer with pollination and pest control on the farm. A minimal need of maintenance and reduced production costs is considered to facilitate the usage of the product. The module should be placed at rest areas on the farm which are areas not used for cultivation. This placement is carefully chosen not to create a farming obstacle for the farmers.

With the help of this product my hope is that the biodiversity within the agricultural landscape will increase and a greater discussion around the issue will rise.

This project has been exhibited at the Sustainability festival in Lund and Form/Design center in Malmö. It has also been published in the newsletter from Jordbruksverket, Ny teknik, Fastcodesign and as a small reportage in Swedish Radio P4. The Project was rewarded with Bo Rydins foundation for best degree projects 2012.

This project was a one week workshop in service design at Politecnico di Milano. The name of the project was "temporary urban solution" and a cooperation with Esterni. The goal was to create a temporary hotel for future big events in Milan such as the salone de mobile. The location was given, Villa Arconati, in the outskirt of Milan. The project was executed in group with the members Jennifer Parker, Avnish Mehta, Gerda Kvedaraite, Marco Spadafora and me.

The project resulted in a concept where the local residents will be lending home objects to create a cosy, sustainable and inexpensive accommodation for visitors. To create a structure in the hotel cardboard templates, with symbols of where to place lend objects, are placed on the floor. Events will be arranged where the lenders and the hotel guest could meet to exchange information and experiences. This is a concept that will benefit both the visitors, the lenders and the organizers.

...once again the little girl pulled of the lid from the hand woven basket and instantly felt the strange but familiar smell in her nose. She put her head curiously down in the basket and pulled up a car made out of Coca-Cola cans. The little girl loved the basket because it was full of strange things, like necklaces made from porcupines, flyswatter made from elephant hair and instruments made from seeds. This was nothing that could be found in any other toy store. It was different.

This basket did not only contain interesting object, it was also filled with memories. Every product had a unique story to it that the little girl loved to hear from her parents as often as she could.

This little girl is me and it is not until later I have realized why this hand woven basket with all its content was one of the most interesting things during my childhood.

This basket was brought back to Sweden from Mozambique, where I grew up with my family. In the basket my parents had gathered different things they bought during these years to save as memories. These things with their simplicity, creativity and unique story still interest me. The creativity to solve problems by using materials you already have around you is, for me, design.

Sustainability is the common focus points through all of my projects because, for me, it is the most important and interesting themes of today.

Here is where I gather things that are going on right now so if you are interested please go ahead and read.

After graduating this summer my supervisor advised me to send in my degree project to the SCA Bo Rydins Stiftelse. The purpose of this foundation is to promote scientific research within universities, colleges and institutes that primarily focusing on forestry and forest industry products, hygiene products, packaging, process, energy and environmental technologies. The foundation awards an annual four to six scholarships of 30,000 SEK each to the best degree projects.

This year my degree project was one of those. I am very excited and grateful for the scholarship because it shows that this subject is of great importance. A big thanks to all the people that has been supporting and helping me to reach this result.

<img src="http://payload30.cargocollective.com/1/3/121576/2913818/800px-SR_P4_logo.png" width="670" height="592" width_o="800" height_o="707" src_o="http://payload30.cargocollective.com/1/3/121576/2913818/800px-SR_P4_logo_o.png" data-mid="23506890" border="0" align="left"/>
Since my graduation, this summer, my master thesis 2livet på en pine" has gained quite a lot of attention in media. Jordbruksverket, the Swedish Board of Agriculture, has published the project in their newsletter "hävdat". This was noticed by the Swedish Radio P4 who called me up and made an interview. This type of attention makes me really happy because one of my goals with the project was to start a discussion and create an interest within the subject which I feel I have succeeded in.

<img src="http://payload30.cargocollective.com/1/3/121576/2913818/IMG_9679.jpg" width="670" height="1004" width_o="1000" height_o="1500" src_o="http://payload30.cargocollective.com/1/3/121576/2913818/IMG_9679_o.jpg" data-mid="20244769" border="0" align="left"/>
During the summers I work together with Hanne Hefto, a danish silversmith educated at Georg Jensen, in her workshop and shop on Gotland. To work with Hanne is such a privilege both personally and professionally. Day by day I get to learn more about this fascinating profession and to, in addition, have a workspace like this is just amazing.

<img src="http://payload30.cargocollective.com/1/3/121576/2913818/IMG_9376.JPG" width="670" height="446" width_o="2048" height_o="1365" src_o="http://payload30.cargocollective.com/1/3/121576/2913818/IMG_9376_o.JPG" data-mid="20244418" border="0" align="left"/>
During five months I have worked with my master thesis where the goal was to find a way to increase the birds chance of survival in Sweden. The project resulted in a module that vill support the birds with both insects to eat and water to drink or clean their feathers in. The module is right now placed at a farm in the south of Sweden for a first evaluation.

During the annual furniture fair in Stockholm I, together with Lisa Frode and Johanna Westin, exhibited "scandi chair". This chair (the white chair on the podium) is a compliment to the kitchen sofa. Storage under the seat and a backrest with the possibility to hang coats or bags are some of the features.

<img src="http://payload30.cargocollective.com/1/3/121576/2913818/IMG_8316.jpg" width="670" height="502" width_o="2048" height_o="1536" src_o="http://payload30.cargocollective.com/1/3/121576/2913818/IMG_8316_o.jpg" data-mid="14826616" border="0" align="left"/>
The 16 of January 2012 my last semester of my education at the industrial design program in Lund started. This last semester I will dedicate to my master thesis. Because of my background, with a dad as ornithologist and my interest in nature, I have chosen "endangered birds" as the theme for my project. My hope is that this project could help us to preserve our biodiversity.
